Growing your "list" on social media is about growing your followers, your subscribers.

Email marketing involves emailing your list of subscribers or borrowing someone else's list and sending out offers. Social Media marketing involves SPEAKING directly to your subscribers/ followers and building relationships with your viewers that may lead to sales. It all starts with 1 good video on a topic that is of keen interest to many. 

Let's talk about YouTube and how Affiliate Marketers can grow your own following / subscribers (and list) to build your sales machine.

So the question becomes what are you going to talk about in your videos to get interest, and keep interest?

First, decide what your first Video is going to be about, who is your ideal viewer, what do you want to convey and achieve with your video.  It's helpful to find someone who is doing NOW what you want to do.  Find someone in your industry with a large following. Watch them, learn, how and what to they say and do,  make your own to fit your niche.  When getting started, keep your video productions simple, as you get more comfortable and grow you can get more sophisticated later.

Think big. If you are going to take the time to plan your videos, record your videos with the goal of generating buzz you need to plan for growth.   Plan on doing a SERIES of videos, short, topic specific videos that provide good content, interesting or entertaining content.  

Catchy titles for your videos with key words targeting your niche are vital.

Example Video Title: How to get FREE Advertising for your Affiliate Marketing Links - STOP paying for ads, do this, it's free

Suggested length of video: 2 - 5  minutes

Goal of Your Youtube Video(s): Generate Associates, Generate Subscribers to your Channel (your list), Brand Yourself, Create Relationships with your followers.

It's hard to talk about yourself in a video so start with the fact that people love stories, and they also love how-to information, if you have expertise to share then help others. Share expertise, secrets, strategies, favorite sites, sales tools, advertising aids, sales suggestions, tips, tricks, what works for you, what doesn't work, reviews...it's all a possibility. 

When you talk in your videos speak directly to the viewer as an individual. Be respectful. 

Suggested content and topics:

I am sharing with you what I found, so you can avoid making the same mistakes and know what to look for when you buy advertising to promote your own affiliate marketing links.

First, I took a look at his Solo Ad copy. It was well written, got to the point, punchy, benefit - rich and enticed the reader to click for a Special Free Offer. No problems with his Solo Ad copy whatsoever.   

Next, I looked at the landing page he was using in his marketing, he had 3 different test versions and was tracking clicks on each. Each landing page (squeeze page) was well written, employed all the essentials of good copy writing, attention getting headlines, call to action, clear benefits, compelling offer, simple sign up / optin form.

Then I reviewed his click rate data for each page.   He had a significant number of clicks with an interesting pattern. When the landing page was promoted in his Solo Ad, the clicks came in within seconds and minutes and hour of the posting, then stopped completely. No clicks at all after about an hour of the ad posting. Let me share some experience with you, as a company we spend thousands of dollars on advertising, and I can tell you that when we post an ad, especially to a list, we get leads for the next few days, even the next week. The responses don't abruptly stop within an hour of the posting. The ad may go out in a few minutes, but the recipients don't check / read their emails at the same time. 

Next I turned to his list of leads.  The leads when viewed as a long list was revealing. There was a suspicious pattern. They had very similar entry data, first initial only and a last name. Then some with a Name that was exactly the same as the email address. Some were entered in all capital letters, while others had the same style of abbreviations.  Odd. I've been in the affiliate marketing industry for over 25 years, I can tell you one fact about data entry. Numerous people don't enter data in the very same way, and rarely on a list of 100 leads would you see the exact same or very similar data entry pattern.

Here's the real eye-opener. When I analyzed if any of these "sign ups" had done anything after they entered their name / email to the optin form, I found that NONE of these leads had taken any further action. By action I mean, they didn't login, they didn't take the next step to "GET" what they had opted in to, or signed up for. Strange. If you are like me, when you "Sign up" for something you usually take (or are required) to take further action to verify the optin, or click to access the provided services, or login to collect on what you were offered and signed up for. Even if you are not like me, you would think that at least SOME of the leads / sign ups would "do" something, not one did. Why? 

These leads didn't pass the sniff test. 

I broke it to Bob. The sign ups were fake, either generated by a robot, or a software auto click program, or spit out by a randomized database of names / addresses/ spoofed IP addresses.  The leads are delivered in large numbers quickly to make the buyer happy. His reason for no conversion? The leads weren't real people, robots and fake names don't buy. 

Finally, I asked Bob, where he had placed the Solo Ads. When he told me the source where he had been posting, the gig was up. He had been using a source that our experience and testing shows is a complete waste of money.

Q:  What's better Solo Ads or Banner Ads?

In general, I would say well written solo ads would perform better then  a banner ad. Assuming that you have a really great, captivating,  attention grabbing headline and that your copy is benefit laden and  makes a fabulous offer.

Solo Ads are often single email distribution of ad copy to a member list  or a subscriber list. So real human eyeballs should be seeing your ads,  if sent from a Safelist, you need to be aware that some people will be  viewing your ad to earn ad credits. It doesn't mean it's not a good way  to advertise it just means that don't think that everyone who clicks is  a buyer. Some WILL buy, and Safelist advertising is effective.

BUT....Instead of asking which kind of promotion is better, consider that ALL  advertising helps, so you can place some banner ads, AND place some solo  ads.  The BEST advertising results are often the result of MULTIPLE forms of  advertising on various platforms.

Smart marketers employ a number of different kinds of advertising to  target different markets, niche markets, and target specific demographics.

Q: I bought some advertising from a trusted source but I notice the rate  at which I am receiving my leads is a little slow should I be concerned?

That's a tough one to answer. My first thought is if you trust this lead  source and the leads are being generated slowly that may be a good  sign.  When ads are placed it takes time for people to respond  especially REAL people who are HUMAN and filling out a form.  You have  to take a good look at your ad copy as well. I see ads all the time that I can  virtually guarantee will not produce leads. Why? The ads are poorly  written. They have no pop, no sizzle, and are serious sleep inducers. The  other side of the spectrum is that the ad is so ridiculous in the  claims made that people are clicking OFF the ad or ignoring it, instantly sizing it up as  another sketchy pitch.    I can also look at an ad and tell you if it will produce  sign ups. Why? Because as a copywriter and marketer with close to 25  years in this industry it is plain as the nose on your face what gets  people to react. It's not a secret, it's the science of human behavior  and a result of utilizing proven motivation principles. If you don't understand the basics of good marketing, marketing that  makes and offer to command action, then you need to go back to basics  and learn. This topic is far to big for the purpose of this here, so  instead you are start doing your homework. A good place to start would  be with my company Worldprofit.com , but I will leave that up to you.   If  you want to get results from your promotion you must know what to  promote, where to promote and how to promote, my team can provide that to you,  it's both valuable and critical to your success as an affiliate marketer.

I would also offer you this advice. If you buy ads and get an instant HUGE influx of  leads I would be far more concerned about that pattern. The reason  is that you may just be getting paid to click leads, or robotic leads,  or even just a harvested list of leads that have been bought and sold  repeatedly.  The leads may not be quality or even real and are mass  distributed in bulk to unknowing buyers. The test will be if those "leads" login, respond, click or take some action to indicate they are HUMAN.   Real leads DO something more then just click.

Q:  Does Safelist marketing work?

A: Absolutely. For many years, at least a decade now, we 've operated 18 High Traffic Safelists to back that statement up,  plus we use several other trusted time-tested safelists ourselves for promotion purposes. The Affiliate marketer doesn't have a bottomless pit of money to pay for Google Ads, or Facebook ads. Safelist advertising is low cost, offers a a targeted audience, and quite simply, gets results. If you aren't getting results take a good look at the ads/offers you are running before you blame the advertising source. I covered this above.        Q: I hear about the importance of having a list, what exactly does that  mean and how do I get one going?

A: A list is sometimes refered to as a customer list, or a lead list, or an email marketing list. Whatever you call it it's your essential bread and butter for your business. The people on the list are subscribers to your mailings and potential buyers of your products and services, be nice to them. Earn their trust, mail content that is valuable  and not sent too often. Building your list takes time  and is accomplished with optin forms, lead forms, newsletter sign up forms, surveys, and offers. You will need mail software or a service to be able to email your growing list and a number of services exist to help you with this. See the end of this posting for help with mail services and hosting.  Ever notice those questionable companies doing a Pre-Launch? Notice the Pre-Launch seems to go on and on and on or never launches at all! Why do you think they are doing that? Three reasons, exposure, LIST BUILDING, sales potential    The bigger the list the bigger the results when they DO finally launch.  Understand the POWER of having, maintaining your own email marketing list in your own success. 

Q: I am trying everything and not getting results, what do I do.

A: I see marketers so eager to start making money online, they try to do  everything at once. What they lack is FOCUS. Yup, it's that simple.   Pick one or two affiliate programs if you are just getting started.   Spend some time every day learning about online marketing, but spend 10X  more then that on promoting. People new to affiliate marketing often  underestimate how much promotion  is required to get sign ups and  conversions. The affiliate marketing industry itself is partly to blame for this, many tell  you it's so easy, you can get rich in 2, 4, 6 weeks,  no work required, blah  blah.  One ad I just saw promised riches in 12 minutes. It's ridiculous. Sadly it's the same old pitch from many of these "just launched" here today gone tommorrow affiliate programs.  Pick ONE good one, a program that offers value, has some substance to it  and provides you with the tools you need to promote it.  You may sign up for an affiliate program and are given a referral link then you are  on your own to figure out where to promote.  That's often why so many  newbies get frustrated and give up. They see the value of the practice  but don't know what to do to start getting signups, they post here and  there inconsistently without rhyme of reason, no systematic approach,  get frustrated and give up. The fact is that people worldwide have been doing affiliate marketing for years. Worldprofit Inc was the first company to offer affiliate marketing and that goes back to 1994. 2. Think like a VISITOR to your site, or a Prospective Customers What do people logically use to find what you offer? What words? What combination of words? What variations? Google does not require exact match key words, they are able to understand relationships/concepts based on blog/site/page content.  What do words did you use to find your competitor's site? Use your brain, and if you really want to dig into this, there are lots of free tools you can use to analyze the best key words for your business.

3. Build your brand, your niche, your expertise  Trust is important to your buyers, and also to Google, BING etc who put a value on AUTHORITY deemed sites as a gauge of trust.  Authority is something that search engines use to weigh the merit of a website as being more valuable then another in terms of rich content. Put your time and effort into good key word rich specific content on lots of different platforms.

4. Social Media matters If you don't have social media accounts, get them!  Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linked In. Start there. Consider setting up personal accounts and separate company accounts  Remember everything you post, is your footprint, a trail leading to you from all your postings, key words, content, pages, blog entries.

5. Mobile friendly sites are preferred..  Starting September 2020, Google switched to mobile-first indexing for all sites. They provide a Mobile-Friendly Test Tool so you can see how Google’s mobile search agent views your site.    

6.  SSL Certificates matter SSL (domain name validation) is important for your buyers AND are checked and validated by search engines. Be sure to have an SSL Certificate for your domain name, so you can use BOTH  http and https for your domain name. Visitors to your site see the padlock in the browser indicating their data is secure when using your site. A purchased SSL Certificate is advised over anything that is free - remember free services are ad laden, their interest is their own not yours, AND they tend to just vanish into the night. 

7.  Site Redirects Be careful with redirects, too many and it may effect your SEO.   Let your site be your site, if using ad trackers, redirects, do it with limits, or get separate sites/pages for different purposes.

8.  Use ALT Image text  Before posting your graphics be sure to include Alt Image Attributes. Images get indexed by Google and other search engines, and are also important to your visually impaired customers.

9.  Internal site linking When you’re linking internally on your site, you don't have to link with your keyword terms internally.  The content around the link is usually sufficient for key words / concept indexing. 

10.  Content has been -  and CONTINUES to be KING That is one thing that has not changes in the every-changing rules of SEO.    When it comes to content it should include key words but don't overdue it. Better to have detailed quality content that is informational and reader friendly,  then sparse low-value content peppered with a repetition of key words. FAQ pages are a good way to get good quality content for SEO whle providing a service for your customers.

One final bit of advise.  

If you don't already have a Google Analytics account get one, it's free and includes info on metatags and lots of helpful information direct from the source. While you are at it,  get BING Webmaster Tools also to access new audiences, and other useful reports and SEO tips. Don't put all your marketing eggs in Google's basket.

Bottom line. Do the basics to help your SEO ranking, but don't forget about your customers. Keep it user-friendly, write for your customers primarily - they are your audience and your buyer - NOT Google. Post quality content often accross a variety of platforms with limited repetiion and you will do just fine.

Here's the problem with that; it's a COSTLY problem and it's sabotaging your business growth.

As an Affiliate marketer you are promoting the services of various companies to earn sales commission. First let me say there is nothing wrong with that.  Affiliate marketing is in an explosive phase right now. More and more BIG name companies offer an affiliate program, and the pandemic has forced more people to be at home they are spending their time online looking for ways to earn extra money.  So if you want to earn some extra money, sign up for one or a few Affiliate programs and start promoting. If your content with that it's a simple, uncomplicated approach, have some fun, make a little money. 

But if you want to get more serious and turn that extra income from affiliate marketing into some more serious dollar amounts, then here's something important to think about and some strategies to achieve your goals.

If you don't have your own domain name, get one, book it in your name. By this I mean, get a domain name one that YOU have registered in YOUR name and PAY for every year. It can be a business name, your name, a niche specific string of words. Keep your domain name, easy to remember, easy to spell, shorter is better but not abbreviated.   Cost is about $20 a year depending on where you register it. It's inexpensive yet one of the most important aspects of your business. The extension for your domain name,  be it a .com or a .biz or a .info or any of the others matters not so much, just remember that .com was the original extension and is preferred by most for being most memorable. New marketers, new business owners, often overlook the value,  power, professionalism and permanence of a domain name.  

Your domain name is YOUR piece of property.  If you have booked your own domain name, and you own it, it's PORTABLE, move to host your site (and your domain name) any where you like.

When you book a domain name you become the legal owner of that name.  

Why does having your own domain name matter?

It's so that when you PROMOTE a link, a product, or a service, you can ACTIVELY be promoting YOUR brand, YOUR URL, your business -  each and every time. Think about how this simple practice will add up in YOUR interests as your business grows daily, monthly, yearly.  You can tie in ALL your social media, all your blogs, all your advertising your specific niche, or URL, or online property that you own. You leave footprints promoting your brand every time you post, instead of promoting someone else when you use their service for posting, blogging, promotion. Backlinks are one of the elements used for SEO ranking by Google and others, they consider backlinks as a measure of importance the site has for users. The longer you have had your own domain name, and been promoting it, the more likely you are to have back links, multiple pages of unique content including  key words and video, just what Google and Bing love!  SEO is massive topic for a whole other article,  for here, it's suffice to say the OLDER the domain name and the more unique content on the site the better in terms of search engine indexing.   Your domain name may cost you $20 today but it's value to you, can grow significantly over time. I know a person who decided not to renew his 10 year old domain name, he let it lapse and it was eventually purchased and resold for over $50,000. Had he renewed the domain name and kept it or sold it himself, that amount might have been much bigger and in his pocket.    His cost to book the name each year? $15.    Let me give you an example of why you need your own domain name.

Affiliate marketers are often in a number of affiliate programs. Each one gives you a unique URL to refer sales, it's the URL of the company with your ID attached. That's required and how they track your sales referrals. But YOU can post that link on YOUR site, or create a new landing pages with a URL from your domain name. Instantly you are promoting yourself, your company, your URL, your brand every time you post. It's easier to do ad tracking on your own domain name(s) for mapping out the blueprint for your ad campaigns accross platforms.  The reality of affiliate marketing is that the companies sometimes suspend operations for any number of reasons, that means you have a lot of dead links out there. If you are using your own domain name, and integrating links to your site you simply remove those dead links but you don't lose your SEO, your backlinks, your online presence. 

Now think about Your Autoresponder. 3. NO headline Headlines are what grab people by the collar, and say LOOK AT THIS! The best headlines speak directly to the viewer, make an offer, give REASONS to keep reading, peak interest Your goal in posting ads is to get the lead - it all starts with a catchy headline!

4. Misspelling, grammatically incorrect Proof read your ads, start with the best possible impression!

5. URL doesn't work! Test your website links in your offers, you'd be SHOCKED at how often advertisers post invalid or incorrect links. You're flushing your ad dollars down the toilet every time a lead clicks on a dead link.

6. Words in your email newsletter trigger spam filters In email offers avoid words like GUARANTEED or any words that are vulgar, or offensive, filters will send them to the junk folder. Don't water down your copy by completely avoiding obvious spam trigger words like FREE but - DO try to use alternative words in subject lines for email marketing. If your posts / emails are being sent right to spam then your click rate will obviously be ZERO. If no one gets your email, nobody sees your offer no matter how well written. 9. Not Targeted If your ad is meant to be seen by Pet Groomers in Saskatchewan, do your best to make sure that's who sees your ad. A customer of ours, recently set up a Facebook Ad Campaign and opened it up to all of the USA. Problem was that he could only sell his product within Canada. If you aren't targeted your buyer you won't get buys.

10. All about YOU and not the Reader. People want to know INSTANTLY the benefits you have to offer - life is busy - get to the point! If you are offering a free $25 GIFT CARD that's your headline! "Get a $25 Gift Card!" Better than. "OUR COMPANY is AMAZING. We offer all kinds of stuff including Gift Cards when you sign up." The first one INVITES a CLICK. I want to know how to get that GIFT CARD! The second headline puts me to sleeeeep. ZZZZ. Talk to me in your ads, to me personally, talk to me directly. I'm a me, one person, not a crowd of somebodys. Trim and TWEAK your ad copy, whittle it down to the fewest number of words that say the MOST.

11. Not using Certified Email Delivery Services. Email providers have filters for good reason - to weed out spam and mass junk email. The problem is that in doing so it often means GOOD, legitimate email from YOU, end up in a junk folder. There is a solution though! I am continually amazed at how many of the Affiliate Links submitted are dead after just a few weeks, or months. The web page gone, nothing left but an error message staring at me, PAGE NOT FOUND. Another affiliate program with big pitches, and fancy cars, disappears into the night.  Where do these websites go? 

There's more then one possible answer to that question.

Some affiliate programs come out super hot. They've got impressive squeeze pages, polished videos and glossy presentations. They promise you the world. They get you in, get your money, then POOF they are gone.

In the affiliate marketing industry some of these unscrupulous vendors even have an expression for what they knowingly plan out then do, they call it 

The Pump and Dump.

They've spent a lot of money to lure you in with the incredible pitch and promise, then they deliver (or not) something of low or no value, then... they disappear.  

Other sketchy vendors rely on the Bait and Switch method. They promise you this, instead you get that,  not what you were promised, and not what you paid for, then they disappear. No response to phone calls, emails, or support requests, simply vanished.

Some companies that are purposefully designed to be "here today and gone tomorrow",  pitch products with catchy names instead of operating under a company name. The reason? They can pitch then drop the product instantly when the authorities catch up with them, or the online reviews get too many, or their payment processor flags them then shuts them down completely.   Sadly for you, for these companies their goal from Day 1, is to make as much money from you as possible then disappear before anyone catches up to them. 

So what do you look for to make sure you don't fall prey to one of these schemes?

1. Ask yourself,  is what I am being told realistic?   Honestly. If someone wants to sell you a product for $12 and tells you it's worth $2500 you've got to question that.  Look for actual VALUE.

2. Be aware that a common practice in some (not all) affiliate marketing pitches, is to tell you the cost is small. So you buy in for $10, then there's the upsell for $27 and another upsell for $47 and another or $97, then you're told you get the big enchilada for another $197, but wait there's more they say, another $597 and you get the whole deal and on it goes -   and still you don't have what you need to actually do anything, and what you do have is of little value. Before you bite, determine what exactly are you getting and what the refund policy is for the product or service. Peel back the layers of fluff and hype and attempt to bedazzle you, ask what are you REALLY GETTING at the end of the day.

A HUGE name, which I refuse to include here is using his BIG name to lure people in to his latest "incredible" venture. It starts off free, then it's $150, then $500, more upsells, more hype, then he's up to 5k, the highest level an eye-watering $25000.  It's a complete crock, no value whatsoever for that sticker prices.  How do I know, he's done the same thing a few years ago, different program.

3. Be aware that we now live in a world of fake. It's the new reality. Reviews can be faked, video endorsements can be paid for, testimonials can be generated by software, bots spit out real-looking FAKE leads, IP addresses can be spoofed.  You may not be a sophisticated techie but you are smart and rely on common sense. Look for what seems ridiculous, be wary of what seems unlikely and implausible, when you see it you will know it  Use your head. If you buy Product XYZ for $3 you are not going to become a Millionaire. If you buy Product ABC you're not going to get rich overnight, without doing any work, laying on a beach in Tahiti.  Don't fall for this. 

Sound logic and reason must prevail in your decision making to protect your hard earned money.

Keep these points in mind.

One fancy product or glitzy gadget is not the SECRET to making money online. Starting and growing ANY business to the point where you are making consistent money takes time and effort.

Understand that if you want to rely only on FREE stuff as your method of choice to earn online, you will have limited success and it will take you a long time to get anywhere. You'll get frustrated. Guess what free sites and services do? They often DISAPPEAR without warning and with it - your links, your blog, your free platform for your business. Poof. All gone.  All that time you spent trying to save a buck is a wasted effort. If you rely solely on free ways to grow your income, you are not thinking like a business owner or someone who at least wants to be serious enough to make some actual money.   Why would you think you could make MILLIONS as an Affiliate marketer with little time, little knowledge and no training? Doctors, lawyers and engineers, PLUMBERS, software developers make lots of money, guess what they had to do first? Learn, train, invest a lot of time, effort and brain power, not to mention money into developing skills in their profession.  

Making money online is like ANY offline business, you have to take the time to learn how to market online and you need a system to follow to generate leads and sales. We've written these guidelines to help you make good decisions when purchasing solo ads.  

Solo Ads are an effective and powerful way to promote your affiliate links and grow your email marketing list.

Here's how it works.

You submit your ad to a Solo Ad Vendor / Seller and he or she sends your ad out to a Subscriber list (email marketing list). If your Solo Ad is well written and compelling, you should immediately start getting a flow of optins and people joining your own email marketing list or autoresponder. The Vendor may or may not provide you with some type of tracking for your Solo Ad stats.  

Solo Ad Advantages

Solo Ads are effective for promoting affiliate marketing links, online business opportunities and MLM (business models that are often banned by Facebook or Twitter) It's excellent target marketing as your Solo Ad gets sent to a subscriber list - people who have agreed to receive marketing promotions. The list recipients are involved in affiliate marketing themselves and are motivated as they may earn credits for viewing the ads in exchange for agreeing to receive email promotions. Usually there are few limits on the size of your Solo Ad Warm and receptive market as people who receive the solo ads have agreed to and are expecting to receive various marketing promotions.   Easy to Track optins to test your ad, your marketing campaign and the list  Solo Ad Disadvantages

There are actually NO disadvantages to the practice of Solo Ads, the disadvantages are solely related to the honesty and reliability of the VENDOR / SELLER of the Solo Ads. 

Here's what to watch out for when evaluating Solo Advertising Vendors

1. If the Vendor insists that you use ONLY their Capture Page, and not one of your own,  be cautious. Reason: Some vendors require you use their Contact page so they have complete control and can "inject" the lead form with bot traffic. This makes you think you are getting a large number of optins but ou can't tell the source or the type of traffic, you just know you are getting a lot of leads / optins.  While initially you may be impressed with the optin rate, you eventually try to contact those people and your fears are confirmed, they are fake, or the trend is consistent that a large number of the leads state they never signed up for anything. In the case where a login is required, you may notice that the lead never logs in, very strange.  Unscrupulous vendors use robotic software programs that have Auto Form Fill functions and that can vary the IP, so it seems that the leads are coming from different computer and parts of the world.  The fact that these are robotic software programs means they can churn out unlimited "leads" and "optins" to unknowing, trusting buyers. 

2. If there is no way to get on the list of the Vendor / Seller to actually see and receive your Solo Ads and those ads of other marketers, be skeptical. Reason: If the Vendor has a list of subscribers there should be no reason why you cannot subscribe to that list to get a confirmation or verification of your Solo Ad as a recipient.

3. If the Vendor /  Seller won't allow you to use your own 3rd party tracking software, ask questions. Without your own 3rd party, unbiased tracker, you have no choice but to trust that what they reveal is truthful. Using your own good quality tracker program can reveal to you referral source, IP, time on page, exit times and more. extremely useful data that can reveal REAL traffic from FAKE traffic.  

4. If the Refund Policy Guarantees Conversion or you don't pay, ask questions and read the fine print. Reason:  Sketchy vendors use words like 100% Risk Free to gain your trust and ease your worry. They know you are busy and most people don't take the time to read Terms and Conditions.  If you take the time to read the Refund Policy who will often find there are conditions or a cancellation fee, or you could unintentionally violate their terms making your refund null and void.

The answer more complex. 

When we as Co-Founders (George Kosch and Sandi Hunter) started Worldprofit on a kitchen table in Edmonton, Alberta in 1994 we were a hosting company. We then started offering website design.  We had a few customers. We grew, and grew some more, really fast.  We had big ambition and perfect timing to take advantage of a new and exploding industry, the World Wide Web.  

Here's some historical context. When we started Worldprofit in 1994, Google didn't exist, they didn't arrive for another 4 years in 1998.  When we submitted Worldprofit's website to be indexed for the first time to the main search engine - it was 1995 - it  was Yahoo. Yahoo was a fledgling, an upstart so small we were on a first name basis with the team at Yahoo. Facebook was a latecomer not appearing on the scene until 2004. Ah the good old days.  Fast forward to today, things have changed for us all.  It's been an incredible ride!

Today, with over 2 million Members, Worldprofit has evolved into a comprehensive business platform, providing the tools, resources, training and support necessary for our Members to start and grow their own online business. We offer a unique Membership but all these years later, we still provide web site hosting,  for one critical reason. Out of the Bootcamp training arose a need to recognize those Worldprofit Members who progressed successfully through our training to achieve a certain level of status.  Worldprofit offers two levels of achievement and recognition, the Certified Ebusiness Consultant (CEC) and the Masters Certified EBusiness Consultant (MCEC).  Each level requires Members to meet certain criteria in order to achieve and maintain the status of CEC or MCEC.   The basis of the program being that we felt it important that our Worldprofit Members have a certain level of familiarity and understanding about online marketing so that they can professionally help others as EBusiness Consultants.

I see too many affiliate marketers and website owners fussing about SEO, site ranking, key words, wasting time, energy and money

Just stop already!

Here's the goods on SEO, what matters, what doesn't.

1. Don't think for 1 minute you can outsmart Google's indexing algorithms and search bots by being devious. 

If you think you can BOOST your ranking by using an Article Spinner, think again. Spinning articles written by other people is a waste of time and if you've bought software to do it you've wasted your money too.   Don't try and be clever and change the dates on your articles and posts then repost, not effective.  Don't steal articles and content from other people, do I really need to say that? Yup. I know that happens, I have seen it.

The folks at Google are smart, the software they use to index sites even smarter. Write and post your own content on a regular basis. Write about what you know for best results, it will flow and you can use your keywords within your content naturally. If you can't write your own content, then hire someone to write unique content for you. For a small fee, you can give writers your points and key words and let them write UNIQUE content for your site or blog. 

2. Stop stuffing!

I am not talking about twinkies and turkey. I'm referring to the practice of overloading your website or blog postings with excessive key words to the point that it is obviously ridiculous and virtually unreadable. There is no advantage to this.

Instead, use the keywords that are relevant to your niche for search purposes but do it as a natural copywriting process. Consider adding a Resource Box, or Author section and include there your most important key words.  Remember it's not just Google bots visiting your website and blog, hopefully your customers are too.    Meet the needs of both with content of good value, interesting and relevant.

3. Submission Myth.

25 years ago when we started our company, we had to manually submit our site URL to Open Text, AltaVista, Lycos, Yahoo, there was no automation. Google didn't even exist at that time. Then along came the AUTO Submitters where you could  enter your URL, key words, category and website title to get your site submitted to 25 search engines and directories, then it was 50, 100, 1000, the claims got bigger and the cost more outrageous as the trend caught on. Thankfully today it is no longer required that website owners submit their site to Google or any other search site. Each search engine has their spider bots that scour the web for new content, new sites, updated content, niche content etc.    So if you are approached or get an email offering to submit your site to all the major search engines for a fee, it is not necessary. 

Back in the day, SEO Experts promised to get your site in the Top 10 on Google, or to move you up in the rankings. That may be easier if you are the only person (or one of 10) in the entire world that offers X, but if your brand or product has a very common key word, you will find the competition is stiff. If you are an affiliate marketer your key words might be TRAFFIC, or MAKE MONEY. Good luck getting on the 1st page of Google with either of those, unless you've got un-ending deep pockets to pay for it to edge out your hefty growing competition.

The SEO expert has now been replaced with the Social Media Expert, or Social Media Manager. These are people who are hired to write unique content, post to your blog, post and share videos, post to your social media accounts, create buzz, increase shares, generate interest even controversy about your product, business or service.   You can if you are on a budget,  hire yourself to be a content provider. You can have one or many blogs just know that MORE blogs means more work and MORE unique content to publish.  Be your own unabashed self promoter, get your LinkedIn account, Twitter, Facebook Page, and so forth. If you are in a specific niche industry try to find sites where you can post content relevant to members, or your target audience.     Better yet, get really good at this and offer your social media content services to others.

4. Google Ad Words

At one time, getting an Ad Words account helped get Google's attention to your site. Guess what? They caught on to that, it now offers no significant advantage.  If you want to spend money on advertising, then book your Ad Words account,  get ready to pay lots, and adhere to Google's strict advertising requirements.    If you can't afford that or your type of business would be rejected by Google that means its back to creating good, unique content of value to the world. 

5. Back Links

A few years ago the trend was to BUY 5,000 backlinks. For a fee, various services would post your URL to a bunch of websites for you. The vendors promise was that Google would think your site was super popular as it had so links to it. The thought was that the more popular your site was the more links there would be coming from other sites. The truth is that popularity of a site does factor into site ranking but only if the links are natural and not contrived on these very obvious backlink sites that have zero content value.  Some of these backlinks sites still exist and charge a fee for the backlinks, keep your money in your pocket. There's a better way.  Here we are again back where we started, if you want better ranking and links to your site,   create good, unique content of value. 

Final Words of advice about SEO for website owners, and affiliate marketers.

When it comes to SEO, natural is best. Let those 3 words be your guide for all things related to your efforts to get better page ranking not just at Google but Bing and the other major players.

Do post regular updates to your website including service updates, customer reviews, product reviews, videos, photos, news, press releases, special events. Integrate your social media links to your website and blog.  

Get a SSL certificate. Security is a major concern, sites that are secure with SSL are viewed as less of a threat to the growing number of security issues plaguing the internet.

Do get a YouTube Channel and post videos on a regular basis. They don't have to be professionally created, remember, natural is best.  Search bots like to gobble up video.

Do make your site mobile friendly, that does give you a wee bit of an advantage over non mobile friendly sites. Don't think you have to pay a web professional a lot of money to make your site mobile friendly it is easy to do and inexpensive. 

Do post regularly to social media but understand Facebook postings and Twitter posting does not give you any advantage in terms of SEO.

Three categories of ezines in ezine marketing

1. Classified ads. These are cheap ads that allow you to get a maximum of three lines at the bottom of an ezine. Although you can save money from them, they also get the least number of responses. Thus you need to place these ads only in eznes with huge subscirpitions.

2. Sponsor ads. These ads are more expensive than classified ads. Consequently, you can expect more responses and have the option of putting them on the bottom or the middle of an ezine issue.

3. Solo ad. Among the three, these type of ads are the most expensive and the most number of responses you may receive. They are exclusively sent to everyone in your mailing list, without any attached article that may usually divert your target audience. For every solo ad you send, you can expect a response of 10%.

How to make use of ezine marketing

Posting ads on ezines is really simple. The whole process is can simply be done in a matter of minutes, but also depends on the number of ads you post. First of all, you may subscribe to a number of ezines so you may have a greater chance of getting more responses. More responses means more profits.
